Staten Island neighborhoods are on the front lines of two of the most pressing challenges of our time: police brutality as evidenced by the murder of Eric Garner, and catastrophic effects of climate change such as we saw from Hurricane Sandy.
In both cases, justice has been denied to Staten Island communities. The murder of Eric Garner resulted in no indictment for anyone involved, and there are still Staten Island residents who remain displaced by the destruction wrought by Sandy.
From the Facebook event description:
We will hear from groups and individuals who are stakeholders in these fights. Community movements have done heroic work on these issues in the streets -- how can radical candidates for office take the fight into the electoral arena?
James Lane, Green Party candidate for Congressional District 11 and 2012 Green Party presidential nominee Dr. Jill Stein will talk about their efforts to use their campaigns to express solidarity with these movements.
